As we move into colder months and what is traditionally flu season, it’s a great time to build up our body’s defenses. Eating right is a key part of a healthy immune system, and so easy to overlook when things get busy!
Here are a few quick reminders.
- Fiber Fit
Don’t forget your whole grains, faro, quinoa, lentil, bran, chia seeds, fruits and vegetables. - Healthy Fats
Flax seeds, peanut butter (yum!), avocado, olive oil, and fatty fish. - Lean Protein
Include eggs, chicken, fish, turkey, beans and tofu for a healthy mix. - Zinc
Good sources include meat, shellfish, whole grains, legumes, grains, nuts and dark chocolate (you’re welcome!). - Vitamin C
More than just citrus fruits, also try leafy greens, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers. - Antioxidants
Blueberries, strawberries, beets, red cabbage, artichokes and dark chocolate! - Probiotics
Sure yogurt is great, but also look for kombucha, kimchi, kefir, and sauerkraut.
