For many of our readers, sheltering in place has never been a possibility. For others, it has been a three-month reality. Regardless of our personal sheltering situation, whether directly or through friends and family, the question of how to safely restart daily activities is one we all share.

An Ounce of Prevention
Ok, maybe even a pound of prevention. As we ease back into more social interaction, it’s important to be more diligent than ever about common safety precautions.
- Maintain your commitment to social distancing.
- Continue to follow recommended handwashing guidelines.
- Avoid using public amenities such as office refrigerators and coffee machines.
- Use a mask when you go out, for your safety and that of those around you.
Manage Your Mindset
Now, more than ever, it’s important to keep a positive attitude and maintain a healthy perspective on this next phase of the process.
- Don’t fight any fears you have about returning to society. Acknowledge them and share your feelings with others. Remember, we all face similar concerns and it helps to voice them.
- Reset your definition of normal. The sooner you accept the changes around us, the sooner you find peace in them.
- Embrace your new routines. Yes, they will be different, but any routine helps you feel more in control and secure in your surroundings.
Control What You Can, Don’t Sweat the Rest
Focus your energy on those things you can control. An important key to your mental and physical well-being is avoiding wasted energy on things outside your influence.
- Stay focused on exercise, healthy eating and connecting with friends and family.
- Reset your personal and professional goals based on today’s realities.
- Accept change as a part of life and a catalyst for new opportunities.
- Take ten minutes each day for yourself – relax, meditate, go for a walk…whatever it takes to mentally escape and reset yourself.
