A great time for a new hobby

Since we all find ourselves with a little extra “home” time on our hands, why not invest a little of it in learning a new skill or picking up a new hobby. Just because we’re all staying close to home, doesn’t mean you can’t still expand your horizons. 

Here are a few ideas to get you started.  

  • How to Draw Cartoons 
    Break out your inner-kid and revisit the joy of cartooning. There are plenty of online guides, but here’s a link to the free How-to-Toon YouTube page taught by Joe Wos, an internationally syndicated cartoonist. Easy, fun and something the entire family can enjoy. 
  • Learn Origami 
    Origami is the art of folding paper, often associated with the Japanese culture. Origami.me is a great online resources to get started learning the basics of this ancient art form. 
  • Improve Your Writing 
    Whether you want to write the next great American novel or simply looking to improve your communication skills, you can never go wrong by becoming a better writer. Check out this overview from Class Central on 90 free online courses on a variety of writing topics. 
  • Smartphone Photography 
    Taking pictures with your phone…what could be easier, right?  Well. It is easy, and with a little study, it can lead to stunning photography too. Here’s a good starting to point to learn what you can do to move from point-and-click to that’s-amazing smartphone photographs. 
  • Feed Your Curiosity 
    A great destination for more general learning is TED-Ed.  The site if full of educational videos, all ten minutes long or less, on a wide variety of topics. Perfect for children and parents alike. 

Don’t let us limit your thinking. Jump online and research other topics of learning that might interest you. There is truly something for everyone…you just have to look. Stay well.
